• Inaugural event was a huge success with 190 athletes competing
• Winners of the Elite Division will go on to compete at the Ice Warrior Challenge at Ski Dubai later this year

Cairo, Egypt, 24 March 2022: Majid Al Futtaim, the leading shopping mall, communities, retail, and leisure pioneer across the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, hosted the first-ever Ice Warrior Challenge in Egypt last Friday. Held in Ski Egypt at Mall of Egypt, 190 sports enthusiasts were tested both mentally and physically as they took on 19 obstacles including monkey bar swings, tyre runs and net crawls in sub-zero temperatures. The endurance challenge was part of Mall of Egypt and Ski Egypt’s ongoing efforts to create unique experiences for the community.

The Ice Warrior Challenge included an Open and an Elite Division for athletes of all fitness levels between the ages of 16 and 60. The winners of the Elite Division were Mohamed Hosny and Diana Karim with finish times of 00:11:31 and 00:12:19 respectively, who won flights and accommodation to Dubai so they can compete at the Ice Warrior Challenge at Ski Dubai later this year.

Mahmoud Youssef, Head of Operations, Majid Al Futtaim Leisure, Entertainment & Cinemas Egypt, commented on the event, "We were extremely excited to bring the Ice Warrior Challenge to Egypt for the first time given how popular the event is with athletes at Ski Dubai, where it has been taking place for more than 10 years. This is a testament to Majid Al Futtaim's commitment to make sports accessible to the local community by hosting fun and innovative events throughout the year. Congratulations to everyone who participated and we look forward to hosting it again based on the success of the inaugural event.”

In the run-up to the Ice Warrior Challenge, Ski Egypt held a series of fitness activities throughout February and early March so participants could get the ultimate health and fitness experience with a variety of workout sessions including cross fit, yoga, cycling, and kickboxing.

The annual challenge was originally launched at Ski Dubai in 2010 and has since become one of the most popular events among obstacle course enthusiasts and thrill seekers in the UAE and also attracts athletes from around the world.
