3 Dresses To Suit Your Mood

The best frocks to match your attitude.

Stylish and flattering dresses to match your attitude

Stylish and flattering dresses to match your attitude

Three stylish dresses to fit how you’re feeling – all available from the shopping malls in Dubai and across the Middle East.

The Confidence Booster

We all have those dreaded “fat days”. This is when you need a highly flattering wear-anywhere dress that you can quickly throw on and feel great wearing.

Enter Diane von Furstenberg’s classic wrap dress – an iconic silhouette that suits just about every body type under the sun. The style nips in at the smallest part of your waist fall at a flattering midi length skim the midriff and covers arms – an all-around winner in our eyes.

Opt for timeless black or take your pick from an array of new season rainbow hues and prints, such as this tropical floral version.

The Mood-Lifting Dress

Whatever the reason for a bad mood, be it a stressful day at the office or the kids acting out on the school run, we’re firm believers that throwing on a fabulous frock can help smooth away a strop.

This metallic sequin-splashed mini dress by Zara Dubai is a great mood lifter. We challenge you not to feel amazing while wearing this statement number. Now you need a place to wear it… we recommend somewhere with a dancefloor.

The I-Mean-Business LBD

An important day at work (or job interview) calls for an outfit that not only ensures you look professional but also makes you feel confident and ready to tackle what lies ahead.

From experience, we can vouch for something smart and structured in a neutral tone – you can always add a pop of colour and on-trend elements through accessories. However, we say steer clear of accessories that are too loud, as you want your potential new boss to be listening to your words, not admiring a rack of jangling bangles.

This office-approved dress by Massimo Dutti is professional, modest and on-trend in this season’s print du jour, gingham.

Who Is Nada Akram Designs

A brand that stands out as bright as a pink highlighter, Nada Akram Designs’ boutique is one to look out for in the Mall of Egypt.

Starting more than six years ago as a completely handmade project, Nada Akram Designs was fueled solely by funk, a love for happiness and supported by nothing but a mission to make people happy through what they wear.

We spoke to the founder herself, Nada Akram, to understand the philosophy behind the authentic yet contemporary brand, what to expect and her new collection. With a degree in Fashion and a stimulated drive, Nada has been dressing women and their children in patterns that aren’t for the mediocre minimalists.

The woman behind the brand is a representation of the brand itself. Happy, artistic, funky, Egyptian to the core and most importantly, different. Her project started off from a purely artistic perspective with no business endeavor in mind and, surprisingly, her love for Barbie.

Barbie was her main muse as a child. She was obsessed with dressing her up and cutting up her Mother’s stockings to create new pieces to make her Barbie funky and colorful. Along with herpassion for all things joyful, Nada has a mad obsession with the likes of Soad Hosny and Sherihan, incorporating them onto her T-shirt prints and her dedication to Egyptian textile.

Her aesthetic is simple: she designs happy patterns. Whether it’s putting the most iconic faces of Egyptian pop culture onto the t-shirts, funking them up with extra ribbons and flowers, Nada wants her customers to wear patterns that make them joyful.  Inspired by an idea that comes to mind, Nada made a promise to never limit herself to trends, timelines, agendas and international fashion rules. She creates when she sees an opportunity to create.  She doesn’t believe in collections that follow a certain mood board or structure; her brand unleashes when her ideas come forth unforced.

The casual wear line of Nada Akram range from cocktail dresses, t-shirts and skirts. Her fans sometimes ask for customized pieces to wear in bachelorettes, birthdays or even simple cocktail parties. She has created various designs for known celebrities, including a vegetable skirt for celebrity Mai Selim and a piece speckled with colored candies for actress Nesrine Amin.

Nada believes that her clothes aren’t for anyone and she is perfectly comfortable with that. The dresses decorated with unicorns, donuts and cupcakes aren’t for the simple woman that runs away from the spotlight. A woman who wears her designs should be ready to have people look at the designs on her clothes as they try to decipher the patterns relationship with the bright colors and adornments.

When pop art and kitsch meet an Egyptian cultural appreciation, Nada Akram comes alive.

Stay tuned for her basics line and new collection inspired by unicorns, rainbows and mermaids at the Mall of Egypt!

PANTONE Fashion Color Report 2017

Limiting yourself to a color scheme isn’t something we advocate, but being aware of the 2017 color palette could do no harm. The spring palette doesn’t value mediocrity with banal blues and standard reds. With Pantone’s annual release of the color of the year, greenery, the colors that complement it are nothing but fabulously natural yet energetic. It promises a celebration of new beginnings that we all yearn for each spring.

The top colors of 2017 spring fashion are:

PANTONE 17-4123 Niagara
PANTONE 13-0755 Primrose Yellow
PANTONE 19-4045 Lapis Blue
PANTONE 17-1462 Flame
PANTONE 14-4620 Island Paradise
PANTONE 13-1404 Pale Dogwood.

No purples or reds. No shades of blacks or white. None of the shades are vibrantly neon, unsaturated and muted. They all have a vivacious, yet calm energy to them.

Let’s have a look at the colors in detail.

Color of the year: PANTONE 15-0343 Greenery

Greenery is the go to color for 2017. Everything complements this color, with everything that it stands for socially and psychologically. A refreshing and revitalizing shade, Greenery is symbolic of new beginnings. It is a zesty yellow-green shade that fortifies nature’s ability to rise from ruins, give life, flourish and unite different beings. The color was chosen for more than its appearance; it was chosen to represent the current need for all of us to pull away from modern life and submerge into nature’s neutral energy. Green isn’t the usual go to color to wear even as a basic t-shirt but we seem to like this shade on most skin tones.

Colors that complement it:

PANTONE 17-4123 Niagara
A shade of blue you can never go wrong with, just like the right classic pair of jeans. Looks easy, feels easy. This shade would look gorgeous in a flirty blouse or a sharp pencil skirt.

PANTONE 13-0755 Primrose Yellow
Consider it to be the hot yellow, imbuing heat and vitality. It’s the color of a sunny day, a happy cheerleader, an enthusiastic entrepreneur. This color isn’t for the faint hearted. Go risky and try out a cocktail dress with this shade, adorning it with deeper statement accessories to create a prominent contrast.

PANTONE 19-4045 Lapis Blue
Lapis blue is a color that resembles inner radiance and strength. It has intensity that is somewhat calm. Who would’ve thought a shade of blue could be mysterious? Pair this color up with one of the more intense colors in the spring 2017 family (pink yarrow) to really highlight the blue’s hidden potential.

PANTONE 17-1462 Flame
A red-based orange, fun loving and vivacious. Adds lots of spice and flare to the Spring 2017 palette. The ultimate risk? Lipstick in this color or a monochromatic make up look all inspired by flame. Now that’s hot!

PANTONE 14-4620 Island Paradise
Island Paradise is a cool, suave shade of blue green that reminds us of blue lagoons, tropical beaches with juicy coconuts. A shade that calls for a Mediterranean weekend. If you’re going for a softer look for work or a simply day out with friends, this shade is your new best friend.

PANTONE 13-1404 Pale Dogwood
Pale Dogwood is a pink shade that is a beautiful version of a nude that shows purity and innocence, putting us in a tranquil mood.  This color is so friendly; it melts with almost every color in the palette. Fuse it with any of the neutrals in the palette for a minimalistic, soft look. If you’re daring to go big with it, we suggest you try it out with Greenery and Kale for a new twist on green fashion!

PANTONE 17-2034 Pink Yarrow
Pink Yarrow is asking you to look at it without being too in your face. It is bold, alive, and on an adrenaline frenzy. Like a pink flower on a beautifully sun-kissed Hawaiian native.  From a long dress to a simple crop top, this shade can do no wrong in bringing out your complexion regardless of its shade.

PANTONE 18-0107 Kale
Kale fits in and neutralizes the solid energy brought from the other colors such as Pink Yarrow and Flame in the palette. Almost a foliage-like green, it’s easy on the eyes with its depth and shade. This color can make the most mediocre jacket or vest turn into a statement item.

PANTONE 14-1315 Hazelnut
A creamy neutral color that is key for spring and any palette for that matter. It’s warmth blends in different colors of the palette, allowing them to intertwine effortlessly. A key color for this spring that doesn’t ask for too much. We suggest mixing Hazelnut with all over the colors in the palette.

Greenery doesn’t fade away in spring! It can be paired up with neutrals, bright hues, deeper shades, pastels and metallic beyond these shades for other seasons to celebrate our yearning for a reconnection with nature. Experiment, decide what works for you and don’t limit yourself!
